Bridge over Troubled Water

I'm reading a book called "Belong to Me " by Marisa de los Santos. It's about what it means for one human being to belong to another. (I know this cause I read it on the jacket cover!)

I just came to a part where one of the main characters, Piper, a woman caring for her best friend Elizabeth, who is dying of cancer listens to her most beloved, best friend in the world sing a lullaby to her two young children. It's the same one she's always sung and now barley has the strength to do. It's "bridge over troubled water" by Simon and Garfunkel. Piper recalls how familiar the song was and how she couldn't believe all the years she spent not realizing that it was about motherhood. I can't believe all the years I've spent not seeing the same thing. It's such a beautiful song and is really be about many different kinds of relationships but I didn't see it in that light. Did you?

I think we all "belong" to many people in our lives and in many important ways. Sometimes in ways we aren't even aware of. That's one reason why I'm not so sure about the agreement (one of the " four agreements") "Don't take things Personal". I know it has it's usefulness. Especially when people are being (insert expletive here). People are coming from their own worlds and so are we. I believe It's in the intersection of the worlds, in the connection of our worlds that we find love, joy, happiness and yes pain, anger, regret, and hurt. I'm not sure if you can separate any of it. Maybe you can if seek to understand the other persons world and accept that it's where they live and have some empathy for them if it's painful all the while accepting that you're world remains as well.

That's a tall order! and yes the wine is flowing. I'm on vacation!

Simon And Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water Lyrics

When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all

I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you

I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

So I'm so excited I finally figured out how to get a playlist on this thing! Nothing goes better with wine o'clock then great music. It can really get the thoughts going! I'll start with"Grace" for my previous post.

Grace

I was listening to my ipod on the plane home Sunday from the Dallas market and "Grace" by U2 came on. It's such a beautiful song. The lyrics are so poetic (here's the wineo'clock coming out). I came home and found the lyrics. I wish I could figure out how to get a music player on here!

Here's the lyrics anyway. If you don't have the song already I recommended you buy it!

U2 Lyrics - Grace

Grace
She takes the blame
She covers the shame
Removes the stain
It could be her name

Grace
It's a name for a girl
It's also a thought that changed the world
And when she walks on the street
You can hear the strings
Grace finds goodness in everything

Grace, she's got the walk
Not on a ramp or on chalk
She's got the time to talk
She travels outside of karma
She travels outside of karma
When she goes to work
You can hear her strings
Grace finds beauty in everything

Grace, she carries a world on her hips
No champagne flute for her lips
No twirls or skips between her fingertips
She carries a pearl in perfect condition

What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things

Grace makes beauty out of ugly things

I JUST LOVE BONO!
